# Air fryer frozen Brussels sprouts with soy-vinegar finish

Air fry plain frozen whole Brussels sprouts without thawing at 390°F / 200°C for about 16–20 minutes after preheating. Shake at 10 minutes, then check the thickest center at 16 minutes and continue in 2-minute intervals until steaming hot and tender. Add the soy-vinegar dressing after cooking. Allow about 28 minutes including prep.

### Ingredients

- 12 oz (340 g) plain frozen whole Brussels sprouts, not thawed
- 1 tablespoon (15 ml) neutral cooking oil

Use the listed quantities. Spoon measurements are standard measuring spoons.

### Method

1. Wash your hands. Keep the Brussels sprouts frozen. Open the bag, separate any sprouts joined only by loose frost, and discard loose ice crystals; do not rinse or thaw them. If the package is sauced, seasoned, labeled ready to eat, or gives safety instructions that conflict with this recipe, use the package directions instead.
2. Preheat a basket air fryer to 390°F / 200°C for about 3 minutes if its manual recommends preheating. Keep the crisper plate in place. Toss the frozen sprouts with the neutral oil and salt until lightly coated. Keep the garlic powder and all three finishing liquids out of the hot basket.
3. Arrange the sprouts in one loose layer with small gaps. Air fry at 390°F / 200°C for 10 minutes. Shake the basket thoroughly, turn any pale surfaces upward and spread the sprouts apart again. If they cannot fit without a deep pile, cook two batches rather than extending one crowded batch.
4. Continue air frying for 6 minutes. Remove any loose leaves that are already deeply browned, then check the thickest sprout: hold it with tongs, move it to a board and carefully cut through the center, or pierce it with a thin knife. Continue in 2-minute intervals as needed, usually 16–20 minutes of air frying in total. The center should be steaming hot, fully tender and free of a cold or hard core; the outside should have browned patches without becoming black. Small sprouts may finish before large ones.
5. Mix the soy sauce, rice vinegar, toasted sesame oil and garlic powder in the serving bowl. Add the hot sprouts and toss lightly. Serve promptly. The listed 23-minute cooking allowance includes a 3-minute preheat and up to 20 minutes of air frying; a second batch or extra tenderizing time increases the total.

## Equipment that helps

A basket air fryer with a crisper plate, a mixing bowl, non-scratching tongs, a small serving bowl, a cutting board and a small sharp knife.

The [Ninja AF141 5-quart air fryer](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CSZ7WBYW?tag=aeomantis-20) Sponsored reaches this recipe’s 390°F setting and includes a removable crisper plate and 5-quart basket. Five quarts describes volume, not the flat area needed around whole sprouts, so split this 340 g batch if it cannot sit in one loose layer. Use non-scratching tongs, and keep an adjustable-temperature basket air fryer you already own if it fits the batch.

## Cooking notes & substitutions

Air fry frozen Brussels sprouts at 390°F / 200°C for about 16–20 minutes after preheating, shaking once and checking the thickest sprout for a steaming-hot, tender center. Cook them straight from frozen in one loose layer, then add the measured soy-vinegar dressing after they leave the basket. Expect browned patches and crisp loose leaves around a soft center, not the uniformly crisp texture of fresh halved sprouts. This method has been reviewed for cooking logic but has not been kitchen-tested.

### What texture to expect

Frozen whole sprouts release moisture as they heat. Their centers should become soft and tender while the outer leaves pick up browned patches; they will not have the broad, uniformly browned cut faces of fresh halved sprouts. Do not keep cooking tender centers until every surface looks crisp.

### Mixed sizes

Size matters more than the clock. Begin checking at 16 minutes, remove small tender sprouts if necessary and let larger ones continue in short intervals. A pale outside can still surround a cooked center, while a dark outside does not prove the middle is hot and tender.

### Pale or wet results

Discard loose surface ice, keep one loose layer and add the wet dressing only after cooking. If the basket fills with released water, carefully drain the drawer as its manual permits, return it and continue checking in 2-minute intervals. Do not add extra sauce to compensate for pale surfaces.

### Package and seasoning boundaries

Use plain, unseasoned frozen whole Brussels sprouts. Sauced, buttered, pre-seasoned, thawed, fresh or already-roasted products need different seasoning or timing. Regular soy sauce is saltier, so start with 1 teaspoon. Tamari can replace soy sauce; check its label if avoiding gluten. Omit sesame oil for a sesame-free version and use ½ teaspoon neutral oil in the finish.

### Two batches

If 340 g will not sit in one loose layer, divide it before oiling so each batch receives about half the oil and salt. Combine both hot batches with the single measured dressing. Keep the first batch loosely covered; do not double the timer for a crowded basket.

### Storage and reheating

Refrigerate leftovers in a shallow covered container within 2 hours, or within 1 hour above 90°F / 32°C. Keep at 40°F / 4°C or colder and use within 3–4 days. Reheat only the portion needed to 165°F / 74°C. In an air fryer, begin checking at 350°F / 175°C after about 4 minutes. Leftovers will be softer; reheating is for safe heating, not restoring the original texture.

## Questions before you cook

### Do I need to thaw frozen Brussels sprouts before air frying?

No. Use plain sprouts straight from the freezer, remove only loose ice and begin checking the thickest center after 16 minutes. Thawing adds surface moisture and changes the written timing. If your package gives different preparation or safety directions, follow its label.

## Leftovers & food safety

Refrigerate leftovers promptly in shallow containers. Do not leave cooked food at room temperature for more than 2 hours, or 1 hour above 90°F / 32°C. Reheat leftovers to 165°F / 74°C. Follow package instructions and use a thermometer where appropriate.
